Description

A rich and flavorful tender braised beef brisket, perfect for cozy evenings and gatherings, enhanced with caramelized onions and a touch of red wine.


Ingredients

  • 4 pounds beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  3. Season the brisket generously with salt and pepper.
  4. Sear the brisket for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
  5. Remove the brisket and set aside on a plate.
  6. Add chopped onions and minced garlic to the pot, cooking until softened (3-4 minutes).
  7. Stir in beef broth, red wine, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme; simmer for 5 minutes.
  8. Return the brisket to the pot, cover tightly, and transfer to the oven.
  9. Cook for about 4 hours or until fork-tender.
  10. Let the brisket rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serve with the sauce.

Make-ahead tips: Prepare the brisket a day prior and refrigerate overnight for deeper flavor.
