- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup red wine
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
- Season the brisket generously with salt and pepper.
- Sear the brisket for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
- Remove the brisket and set aside on a plate.
- Add chopped onions and minced garlic to the pot, cooking until softened (3-4 minutes).
- Stir in beef broth, red wine, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme; simmer for 5 minutes.
- Return the brisket to the pot, cover tightly, and transfer to the oven.
- Cook for about 4 hours or until fork-tender.
- Let the brisket rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serve with the sauce.
