Description

A delightful blend of tangy sourdough and sweet strawberries, this bread offers a unique flavor experience perfect for any gathering.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups active sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped fresh strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine 2 cups of your active sourdough starter with 1/2 cup of water in a large bowl. Mix well until uniform.
  2. Add in 4 cups of bread flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir until the dough begins to form.
  3. Fold in 1 cup of chopped fresh strawberries, being careful not to crush the berries.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth and let it rise at room temperature for 4-6 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Shape the dough into a loaf, tucking the strawberries gently inside.
  8. Place the loaf into a greased pan and allow it to rise again for about an hour.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the crust turns a deep golden brown.
  10. Let the loaf cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Consider using ripe strawberries for the best flavor. This bread can be stored at room temperature wrapped in a kitchen towel for up to three days or frozen for longer storage.
