Description

A tender and flavorful orange chicken made effortlessly in the slow cooker, perfect for family dinners or potlucks.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken thighs or breast
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice for serving
  • Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the orange juice, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a medium mixing bowl until completely blended.
  2. Place the chicken into the slow cooker and pour the sauce over it, ensuring each piece is coated generously.
  3. Cover and set the slow cooker to cook on low for 360 minutes (6 hours) or on high for 240 minutes (4 hours).
  4. Mix the cornstarch with the water in a small bowl until smooth about 30 minutes before the cooking time is complete. Stir this into the slow cooker to thicken the sauce.
  5. Shred the chicken with two forks back into the sauce once the cooking time is done, blending it well.
  6. Serve over fluffy cooked rice, garnishing with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

You can swap honey for maple syrup or agave for a different taste. For a vegetarian twist, substitute chicken with tofu.
