A rich and decadent German Chocolate Cake with layers of chocolate and coconut pecan frosting.

- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat together cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and butter until creamy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla extract and buttermilk.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
- Pour in boiling water and mix until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Prepare the coconut pecan frosting by combining coconut, pecans, and frosting ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Spread the frosting between the layers and on top of the cake.
