Description

A delightful comfort food featuring crispy fries topped with savory chili and melted cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (28 oz) frozen French fries (or homemade fries)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) chili beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Sour cream (for topping)
  • Chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • Jalapeño slices (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Spread the frozen French fries on a baking sheet in a single layer.
  3. Bake according to the package instructions until golden brown, about 25 to 30 minutes.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add ground beef.
  5. Cook until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes; drain excess grease.
  6. Add diced onion and garlic; sauté for 3 to 4 minutes until soft.
  7. Stir in chili beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika.
  8. Season with salt and pepper; simmer for 10 to 15 minutes until thickened.
  9. Transfer fries to a serving platter; spoon chili over them.
  10. Top with shredded cheddar cheese and broil for 1 to 2 minutes until bubbly.
  11. Serve with sour cream, chopped green onions, and jalapeño slices.

Notes

Make-Ahead: Prepare chili in advance and store in the fridge for up to 2 days. Customize with toppings like guacamole or black beans for a vegetarian option.
