Description
A warm, creamy bowl of oats topped with caramelized bananas, chocolate chips, and nuts, evoking the joy of a classic ice cream sundae.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 2 cups milk (or non-dairy milk)
- 2 ripe bananas
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts or pecans)
- Maraschino cherries for topping
- Whipped cream for topping (optional)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the rolled oats and milk over medium heat. Stir occasionally while the mixture comes to a gentle boil. Cook until the oats soften and turn creamy, about 5-7 minutes.
- While the oats are cooking, slice the ripe bananas. In a separate skillet, melt the brown sugar over medium heat. Add the banana slices and caramelize for about 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.
- Once your oats reach a creamy consistency, remove from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and half of the caramelized bananas.
- Dish out the oats into bowls, topping each with remaining caramelized banana slices, chocolate chips, and chopped nuts. Finish with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry if desired.
Notes
Use rolled oats for quick cooking. Steel-cut oats can be used but will need more cooking time. Customize toppings as desired.
