Description

A comforting dish featuring juicy hamburger steaks in a rich and creamy gravy, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Mashed potatoes (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the ground beef, chopped onion, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder in a large bowl.
  3. Form the mixture into 6-8 oval-shaped patties.
  4. Brown the patties in a skillet over medium-high heat, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Make the gravy by whisking flour into the remaining drippings in the skillet, then gradually adding beef broth and milk.
  6. Thicken the sauce until it simmers and add sour cream and melted butter.
  7. Arrange the patties in a baking dish and pour the gravy over them.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbling and cooked through.
  9. Serve over mashed potatoes if desired.

Notes

Make-ahead tips include preparing patties a day in advance. Can be made gluten-free with appropriate substitutions.
